Robert Tomei is Chairman and CEO of Advanced Capital Group. He is responsible for the approval of every Group investment, for evaluation and investments in Venture Capital, Private Equity, Secondary and Debt Strategy partnerships. Some of his investments include partnerships such as NEA, ACCEL, Blackstone, BC Partners, Whitney, Summit, TPG, Bain, Cerberus and Matlin Patterson.
Prior to AC, Robert spent a number of years at Merrill Lynch International as an advisor on alternative investments and private placements. He began his career in the financial industry in New York in 1993 at Kidder Peabody’s International Department of Fixed Income as institutional advisor on structured finance, before transferring to London for the same company.
Mr. Tomei is a member of the CFA Institute and of the AIFI institutional investor board, he is also Chairman of the Investment Committee of the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation and member of the YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization). He has a NASD Series 7 and 3 and is a Registered Representative of the British Securities and Futures Authority (now FSA). He is also an Aspen Institute member.
Mr. Tomei is a longtime collector and supporter of contemporary art. He is a Board member of various museums and is Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation, Trustee of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and a member of the Tate International Council, the Contemporary Arts Council of the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), and the Committee of Friends of the Rivoli Castle.
Robert Tomei received his degree ad honorem in Logic and Analytical Studies from St. Bonaventure University and pursued his graduate studies in the same fields at both Yale and Columbia Universities. He regularly writes for and is interviewed on alternative investments by various financial media.
